Furoshiki - traditional Japanese wrap used
frequently during the Edo period (1603-1867), originally,
they were used in public baths (furo - bath, shiki - to lay
out flat), to wrap the wet towels and clothing after bathing.
Today their use has changed somewhat: these beautifully decorated
wraps are used to wrap presents or very often are used as
convenient "carry bags" which can be folded and
carried around in your pocket or handbag.
The Budostuff team use foroshiki on a daily basis. They are
used to wrap keikogi for transport, which is particularly
useful after training - sweaty training gear can "breathe"
while wrapped in the fuoshiki and so it doesn't rot in your
bag while you're taking it home after a hard training session.
Below you can see some examples of these popular Japanese
wraps which you can get for free as a member of our mailing
list.
These are examples only, you might get a totally
different furoshiki and we apologise that there is no choice
available.
